Effects of Hemorrhagic Shock on Lysosomal Enzyme, Acid Phosphatase, in Blood and Thoracic Duct Lymph

Abstract
Recently increased attention has been given to the role of the lysosome in the pathogenesis of irreversible shock and a few investigator reported the increment of one of the lysosomal enzyme, acid phosphatase, in blood as well as in thoracid duct lymph in hemorrhagic shock. However, the release of a measureable quantity of the enzyme and its effect as a cause of irreversibility in shock has been questioned by some investigators. In addition, the degree of hemorrhage to produce shock in their reports was so severe that the modality of their experiment was unacceptable from the point of clinical view.
The effect of hemorrhagic shock on lysosomal enzyme, acid phosphatase, in blood and thoracic duct lymph was studied in 12 dogs whose arterial pressure was lowered and maintained at the level of 70 mmHg for 4 hours.
The results disclosed no significant elevation of the enzyme in thoracic duct lymph as well as in blood whereas the lactic acid in blood and thoracic duct lymph was markedly increased.
